The Community Ambassadors is a project funded through National housing provider Clarion Housing Group. The aim of the project is to recruit young people living in and around Clarion Housing Group properties and support them to make a positive difference in their communities. The programme has been running for 4 years and consists of groups of young women who meet on a weekly basis at the Sutton Hall in South Shields. The young women have taken part in a range of voluntary work which has benefited residents living in their community and has diminished any negative attitudes held between older and younger generations. Some of the work the young women have completed includes:
- Voluntary work with the Mini Ambassador Programme, supporting a community drama project and offering support at community events.
- Community Projects; including creating hanging baskets, cleaning out an allotment and creating a mosaic garden.
- Intergenerational work; working with the local Knit and Knatter group, hosting a bingo evening at local care homes and delivering a fire safety talk to residents living in sheltered accommodation.
- The young women have taken part in a range of social positive activities including bowling, water sports, rock climbing and much more.
